Adult day care aides must have a strong desire to help people. They should be mature, patient, and responsible. They often perform basic self-care activities for clients such as feeding, toileting, and combing hair. They need to communicate well in order to tell families about the client’s activities throughout the day.

During high school, I worked as a volunteer at a group home for adults with mental retardation. After graduation, I was hired to be an adult day care aide. My employer gave me on-the-job training to learn how to work with clients.
