5. Listen to your recorded voice

Are you aware that the sound you hear when you speak is different from the sound others hear? Your voice may be higher or lower than you realize, or perhaps you overuse comments like "ugh", "ahh", "um", "you know", and "like."

You can change the way you sound. Start by listening to your recorded voice, and try to discover bad habits you didn’t know about.

Do you make any of these speaking mistakes:

  • "You know, like, I was going to, like, call..."
  • "Um, will you, um, see if you can, um..."
  • "Huh?" "Yeah, okay, like, that’s cool."
