Career Information
What I need to know and be able to do

Multimedia specialists need to be familiar with a wide range of computer technology. When working on a website or creating video games, they should be able to use computer languages such as HTML, DHTML, java script, ASP, and the various types of software used to create web pages. Multimedia specialists who create videos need to know how to use lighting, tape and edit films, and create special effects.

Specialists who create business presentations need to be able to use computer software packages such as Power PointTM to create slide shows. They also must be knowledgeable about graphic layout and design and electronic and hardcopy printing and publishing processes.

How I prepared for my job

After receiving my associate's degree, I found a job with a multimedia production company. I started out testing and adjusting specific parts of a project. It was my job to notice if a link didn't work on a website or if the web pages didn't download fast enough. After gaining experience, I now was promoted to a team that develops ideas. After an idea is approved, I work with the graphic artists, writers and other specialists who organize and put projects together.

How I could have prepared better

I should have taken public speaking courses in school. I'm great with technology, but meeting with clients and leading meetings is difficult for me.
