10. Request to contact your current employer

Some applications ask for permission to contact your current employer. If your current employer does not know you are looking for other employment, you must give an answer that explains why you cannot provide the information.

Handling current employer information:

  • If asked whether your current employer may be contacted, say "yes" only if your employer is aware of your job search and approves.
  • Protect your current job by replying "no" if you do not want your employer to be contacted. (In most cases, you will not want your current employer to be contacted.)
