9. Reach agreement

Different opinions are good for a team. The goal is to use these differences to find the best course of action.

People who remain "stuck" on their own ideas make poor teammates, so be prepared to change your opinion when someone has a better idea.

Another of your responsibilities is to help team members resolve their disagreements. Here are three different approaches to resolving a heated team discussion:

  • Look for common ground.
  • Suggest a cooling-off period (for instance, until the next meeting).
  • Suggest outside resources that could help resolve the issue (for example, an expert from another part of the company).
