10. EI as a learned skill

This last point is the most important of all. After reading about EI, you may be thinking, “But what if I don’t have it? Am I doomed to be emotionally stupid forever?”

No, you’re not doomed! Emotional intelligence is a skill that you can learn. Later lessons on this topic will help you:

  • Improve your self-awareness
  • Improve your self-regulation
  • Improve your self-motivation
  • Improve your empathy
  • Use your enhanced EI to improve your social skills

It will take some work, naturally. You can’t raise your EI simply by deciding to do so. You need to make a real commitment to self-improvement.
