
2. Establish trust
It’s difficult to work with someone you don’t trust. You’re always concerned the person will undercut your efforts. To be effective, team members need faith in each other.
It’s a two-way street. If you expect others to trust you, you have to begin by trusting them.
How trust affects teams:
- Jorge has a great idea for a new team strategy. Last week, though, people made fun of his suggestions, and now he’s afraid to speak up. Because he doesn’t trust his teammates, he keeps his idea to himself.
- Carla is running late with her research. She asks Janine to help because she trusts Janine to pitch in without a fuss. The research is finished on time.
