Scientists and chemists have invented new processes that will allow more car parts to be recycled. Composite Recycle Technology, one recycling method, recovers nylon from car radiators, which reduces the amount of material going into landfills at the end of a vehicle's life. Some scientists believe that this technology is good for society, good for the economy, and good for the environment.
In one study, Composite Recycle Technology used 500 reinforced-nylon radiators from junkyards in Japan. First, the tanks were ground up. Then the ground particles were dissolved by heat and pressure. Contaminants that could not be dissolved were removed by filtration. The remaining nylon was dried and heated. It produced nylon that was of the same quality as brand-new nylon.
